Why aspire to design well?
Because quality design–a multifaceted interdisciplinary enterprise–
is key to a healthy and liveable world.
Creation defines both me and design at large.
I have engaged the creative side of the discipline since I first held a pen, but four years of vocational education allowed this passion to blossom into a diverse professional practice.
My portfolio ranges from traditional arts to contemporary media. I am no stranger to painting, sketching or bookbinding; I excel in computer graphics, animation, and photography;
and I continue to grow through commissions from renowned clients around the globe.
Connection lies at the heart of good design.
Thanks to my lifelong Girl Scout experience, I am a responsible team leader, appreciative of all those who contribute to any common endeavor. And as a multilingual interpreter,
I extend my management and communication skills beyond my mother tongue
and into the professional field; I strive to facilitate cooperation through understanding, regardless of linguistic barriers.
But principally, design attracts me through its tangible positive influence.
During internships at various firms, I witnessed the real-life rhythm of architectural practice and became aware of design‘s social impact–especially through a participatory planning project "Bridging the Gap" with Herbert Dreiseitl, in which our architectural team transformed a city in collaboration with its citizens. This is the priceless dimension of the discipline:
design enables us to envision and build a better world, from human-scale dwellings
to resilient and sustainable environments.
International study and practice have opened my mind to new perspectives. Now, at UC Berkeley, I get to explore design‘s philosophical and theoretical dimensions in novel ways–
yet there will always be more to learn. I seek further diverse environments and transformative experiences; I aim to approach all challenges with an open mind;
and I am determined to master the complexities of good design.
